What is The Best Performing Banner Size for AdSense?

by Tran Tinh on December 12, 2009 · 28 comments

Have you ever thought about which adsense banner size that performs the best? Have you rotate different banner sizes and exprienced its benefits? I have tried all type of adsense banner sizes and formats and learned a lot from time to time. Google also recommended you several sizes that are most beneficial.

Relying on one banner sizes that you think can perform the best is not the smart way as each size can have its own advantages and disadvantages. Further, you can not always put one size in all places while your blog are matched with other sizes. If you try to put an inappropriate sizes by that way, your blog will looks so ugly and your visitors can never click. You can be a victim of generating invalid clicks that violates Google Adsense policies.

If you are interested in boosting your adsense earnings, you should think about how to optimize your adsense ads placement on blog. Of course, you have your own options whether to continue making money with adsense or affiliate, but optimization tips are always the good way to boost your revenue. You can also read a very interesting post on Cho Toan dot Com about this.

I would like to share with you guys one analysis with a detailed graph from one indian adsense premium publisher – Amit – one of my favorite bloggers. He has earned a lot from Google and used it to buy a beautiful car. That is a dream of many big bloggers now.

Here is the graph of what adsense banner sizes work best:

That is his personal experience, however, this is in line with what Google mentioned that 336×280 and 300×250 size would help us increase CTR and Amit is right on this point.

Anyway, you have your own decisions and I have my own too. However, you should think about this as your revenue is the most important thing and it is worth to try these suggestions and see how it works with your blog.

What do you think about this? Is bigger banner size always the best one?

from personal experience, the bigger rectangle works out best, and we should also note that labnol is a premium adsense publisher and we are normal publishers, so what works good for amit might not be so great for the rest of us,

You are right in this case but Google also recommended 336×280 and 300×250, so it must be good then :$$$:

Yes, I saw maybe 250×250 banner on your blog and this is not recommended by experts and Google Adsense Team. You should test different sizes to see which best fit your blog :$$$:

The 336×280 and 300×250 size banners worked for me while my account was still active but I’m looking @ experimenting with the 468 x 60 banner @ the end of my blog posts as I somewhat of believe readers will most likely click on anything after the post, if the post doesn’t answer their question/queries. ;) . I guess I’ll just have to wait till my account gets reactivated to try this out!

What happened with your adsense account? Is yours deactivated as of invalid or fraud click? You should contact Google Support if you have done nothing wrong but I must say it is really hard to get it recovered, little % could do. However, bigger seems works better nowadays and I saw even 300×600px ads on TechCrunch. The 468×60 at the end of post sometimes work well but I love putting at the beginning of the post
